THE ANDY WARHOL COLLECTION BY PEPE JEANS LONDON
LAUNCHES FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2008

“Fashion wasn’t what you wore someplace anymore, it was the whole reason for going” – Andy Warhol

UNITED KINGDOM, January 18, 2008 — Autumn/Winter 2008 will see Pepe Jeans launch its first collaborative collection with The Andy Warhol Foundation.

The Andy Warhol Collection by Pepe Jeans London will feature iconic images from the artist’s estate on a range of apparel and accessories.

This unique union of two mainstays of popular culture pays homage to the creative mastermind who inspired a generation, and brings together the dynamic iconography of Warhol’s work with the heritage of one of Europe’s best loved denim brands.

The pre-eminent American artist of 20th Century, Warhol challenged the world to see art differently. Warhol’s legacy lives on through his work, The Andy Warhol Foundation and now, through The Andy Warhol Collection by Pepe Jeans London. The range embraces the artist’s sophisticated sense of design and forward thinking concepts and is destined to become as collectible as the art itself.
The Andy Warhol Collection by Pepe Jeans London features 250 male and female pieces across Warhol branded denim; featuring printed pocket linings and embellishments, tailored casualwear and a full accessories line that sum up the confidence and individuality of the man and his movement and span two distinctive segments, Pop and Factory.

Pop finds its inspiration in Warhol’s characteristically vivid prints, such as the famous Campbell’s Soup Cans (1962), The Two Marilyns (1962), and Brillo Boxes (1964), while Factory is inspired by the distinctive personal style of Warhol’s infamous disciples; the delectable, decadent hedonists who frequented his New York studio, including such luminaries as Edie Sedgwick, Candy Darling and Viva.
Michael Hermann, Director of Licensing at The Andy Warhol Foundation comments: “Known as an iconoclast in the denim industry we are delighted to work with Pepe Jeans London on an inventive collection of apparel that is inspired by Andy Warhol’s non-conformist spirit. I have no doubt that the execution of the collection will surpass our expectations and those of the consumer”.

To launch the collection, Pepe is transforming its London Portobello Road flagship store into a replica of Warhol’s studio, ‘The Factory’. It will feature Billy Name’s innovative silver walls, one-off packaging for bespoke items, screen printing facilities enabling one of a kind pieces to be created and a date-perfect soundtrack, featuring the music of The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed and other superstars of the era.
‘The Factory’ store will carry the full Autumn/Winter 2008 line and a smaller demi-collection, available from May 2008.
